This course is open to all individuals with an interest in acquiring knowledge of the Syriac language. Students from any academic institution, including universities, colleges, and high schools, are welcome to enroll in Aramaic Studies, which comprises two courses, namely Aramaic 1100 (with a credit value of three) and Advanced Culture 3990 (with a credit value of one). For further information on Course Outcomes, please refer to the relevant documentation. It is advised that students liaise with their respective Home University to ascertain the manner in which credits will be accepted. Some colleges may permit this course to replace foreign language prerequisites. [/expand]
[expand title="Do I need to take the Placement/Proficiency Exam? Who Offers The Exam?"]
Each College/University has different rules of accepting this class and as follow:-
  • Wayne State University (WSU) requires each WSU student took this course to take and pass the Placement Exam with minimum of 70%. The Placement Exam is two parts, written exam, and oral exam. Please contact Arnelle Douglas 313-577-2680 arnelle.douglas@wayne.edu for more information.
  • University of Michigan Starting Winter 2023, University of Michigan requires students to take the Placement Exam in Aramaic/Syriac language to meet the LSA's language requirement. Student is responsible to contact the Language Department - academic.standards@umich.edu - (734) 936-1552 before taking the replacement exam in Aramaic/Syriac language.
  • University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) students can take this course as direct study. No Placement Exam is required. The class is listed in UDM catalog under Aramaic Language ARA1100 & Advanced Culture 3990. For more information, please contact Lara Wasner at 313-993-1191 or via email at wasnerle@udmercy.edu and let us know if you have any questions.

[expand title="How do I know how many credits my College/University will accept?"]
Contact your University or College to find out if and how the credits will transfer, since each has its own foreign language proficiency requirements. Please confirm this information prior to enrollment.

[expand title="I am attending a community college but will be transferring to an University, will my credits still transfer?"]

[expand title="I am a high school student looking to get some early college credits, am I able to register?"]
The course is open to all students starting at a minimum grade requirement at the 11th grade. Credits may transfer to the College/University after the student graduates from their high school. Transcripts need to be forwarded to your college or university in order to be evaluated. [/expand]
[expand title="I already have my language requirement, can I take the class to gain some Gen Ed credits?"]
Each College/University has different rules on Gen Ed credits. It is the responsibility of the student to contact their home institution for specific Gen Ed questions. Students can print a copy of the course objectives and outcomes to take to their advisor for evaluation. It is at the advisor’s discretion to determine course equivalents and transfer credits. [expand title="In what dialect will the class be taught in?"]
The Class is taught in a unitary dialect, consisting of Assyrian, Chaldean and Syriac. Students will be taught how to read and write in standardized Syriac (Eastern Dialect) allowing them to build their speaking skills. [/expand]
[expand title="How can I get a copy of the textbook?"]
The course textbook is included in the tuition fee for our college-credited Aramaic class. Once we receive your tuition payment, we will proceed to ship the textbook to the address provided in your registration form. [/expand]
[expand title="Do I need to do and submit the assignments?"]
It is imperative for all students to complete and submit their assigned coursework. Attendance is also mandatory and students are expected to be present for at least 80% of class sessions, which equates to 13 out of 15 weeks. If a student is unable to attend a class, prior notification must be given to the instructor. Moreover, it is mandatory for students to submit all assignments by the deadline set by the instructor. It is important to note that all assignments, including exams, are to be completed through the E-Learning site.

[expand title="Will dropping the class affect my tuition?"]
Dropping or withdrawing can usually affect your tuition. Tuition are due before or by the first day of the course. An official written letter or a message via email must be submitted in case of dropping the class.
  • After the end of the first week of class, 25% tuition is charged
  • After the end of the second week of class, 50% tuition is charged.
  • After the end of the third week of class, full tuition is charged.

Each College/University has different rules on what is the minimum passing grade if the Replacement Exam is not required. Contact your school for more information. However, Aramaic Studies LLC passing grade is 80% or better. [/expand]

Note: Please note that it is mandatory to keep your web camera on and facing you for the entire duration of the class session as proof of attendance.
