This non-college credit course, titled "Modern Syriac - Eastern Dialect," commonly referred to as Sureth, offers a comprehensive study of the language, catering to both beginners and advanced learners. Spoken by Mesopotamian peoples in the Middle East and also known as Chaldean or Assyrian, the Sureth language offers a rich cultural and linguistic heritage. Foundational Concepts (Beginner Level)
For those new to the language, this introductory section provides a foundational understanding of Sureth. You will learn the basics, including the 22-letter alphabet and seven vowels, mastering proper pronunciation, reading, and writing. The curriculum covers essential vocabulary and basic grammar, including nouns, numbers, dates, directions, days, months, and adjectives. This level also introduces the rich literary tradition of Sureth, including biblical texts and liturgical works. By the end, you'll be able to read and write simple words and sentences and will have gained an appreciation for the unique cultural and historical legacy of the Sureth people. This is an excellent option for community members looking to connect with their cultural heritage.

Advanced Proficiency (Advanced Level)
Building on the foundational knowledge, this advanced section is for those with prior proficiency in Sureth. The curriculum focuses on more complex grammar and advanced vocabulary, with an emphasis on reading and analyzing a variety of Sureth texts. You will study more complex sentence structures, including the use of conjunctions, prepositions, and clauses, as well as advanced verb tenses. The course also includes conversation practice and advanced reading assignments. Participants will delve into more specialized vocabulary and highly specialized terms. You'll deepen your understanding of the cultural and historical context of Sureth through the study of more advanced texts, such as biblical commentaries, theological treatises, and secular literature. By the course's conclusion, you will have achieved a high level of proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding complex Sureth texts, gaining a deeper understanding of the Sureth people's contributions to the Middle Eastern region.
