The non-college credit course, "Advanced Modern Syriac - Eastern Dialect," commonly referred to as Sureth, is tailored to individuals seeking to enhance their language skills beyond the basics. This course is designed for those who have prior knowledge of Sureth, either through completing an introductory course in Sureth or through basic language proficiency. The program intends to provide an opportunity for participants to expand their comprehension and mastery of the Sureth language.
The course builds on the foundational knowledge acquired in the introductory course and focuses on more advanced grammar and vocabulary, with an emphasis on reading and analyzing complex Sureth texts, including nouns, how to read (numbers. Date, year, currency, century), conversation, and reading. Participants will learn more complex sentence structures, including the use of conjunctions, prepositions, and clauses. They will also study more advanced verb tenses and moods and will expand their vocabulary to include more specialized terms and expressions.
The course is focused on advanced grammar and vocabulary, with an emphasis on reading and analyzing complex Sureth texts. Participants will study advanced syntactical structures, such as subordinate clauses and complex sentence structures, and will expand their vocabulary to include highly specialized terms and expressions. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions and debates on topics related to Sureth language and literature.
The course materials are designed to be challenging but accessible, with clear explanations and examples. Participants will have the opportunity to practice their Sureth language skills through exercises, activities, and reading assignments.
In addition to building on their language skills, participants will also deepen their understanding of the cultural and historical context of Sureth language and literature. They will study more advanced texts, including biblical commentaries, theological treatises, and secular literature.
This course is a great option for individuals who are interested in furthering their understanding of the Sureth language and culture, and for those who wish to pursue advanced studies in the field of Middle Eastern studies, theology, or religious studies.
